To experience Austin, you don’t have to look much further than out of a window, in any - no every - area of town. Our streets are lined with some of the most amazing art in the country only to be interrupted by the endless food trucks that dominate our culinary scene. On this detour, we’ll weave through the city showcasing the very best and most offbeat street art (not to be called graffiti!) while popping into a few food trucks (not to be feared) to sample their delicious specialties. This detour gets you out of downtown and into the real neighborhoods so see and taste authentic Austin.

We leave Austin and take a leisurely half-day visit to quaint Dripping Springs, the “Gateway to the Hill Country.” Wildflowers and wineries dot the landscape and you feel as if you’ve entered a different world. Finally we’ll arrive at the most famous BBQ pit in Central Texas – The Salt Lick.
In 1967, Thurman Roberts, who was known for his delicious barbeque at family reunions, decided he would cook meat for paying customers. Thurman and his two sons built a huge barbeque pit. Thurman would go to the pit on Thursday night and start cooking. He stayed for the weekend, sleeping on a cot, until all the meat sold. He kept coming home earlier and earlier. After a few months, the boys and Thurman built a little screen porch around the pit. The Salt Lick has grown from there.

The Roberts family now serves mouthwatering barbeque to thousands of folks each week at their popular Driftwood outpost, at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and at their third store in Round Rock.

Price: $104.00

50 Seat(s) Available
